Carrinet and ASDA collaborate to reduce plastic waste in the UK
The British supermarket chain ASDA has launched an initiative to reduce the use of single-use plastic in its fruit and vegetable departments – and Carrinet’s Veggio bags are part of the solution.
In a trial taking place in nine stores, including Harrogate, Middleton, and York, ASDA is replacing traditional plastic bags with our reusable net bags made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The bags are sold for 30 pence each, offering customers an affordable and sustainable alternative to single-use plastic.
According to ASDA, the initiative could save up to 141 tons of plastic per year – equivalent to more than 3.5 million single-use bags – if implemented across all of the chain’s stores.
“This is an exciting step on our journey to reduce unnecessary plastic throughout our operations and to reach our goal of a 15% reduction in our own plastic use by 2021,” said Kevin Patel, Director of Produce at ASDA.
ASDA’s trial is part of a growing movement among UK supermarket chains that are actively working to reduce plastic waste and offer more sustainable options to their customers.
At Carrinet, we see this collaboration as further proof of how small, tangible solutions can create big change – both for consumers and for the environment.
